A three-way romance between a young woman and two rock musicians turns into a stirring music film about life in the Soviet Union just a couple of years before the fall of the Iron Curtain. Russian theater and film director Kirill Serebrennikow – who was in the cross-hair of the government more than once himself – shows the creative means the musicians used to resist the restrictions inflicted by the state, and has his protagonists dream of freedom in ecstatic music clip sequences. Inspired by the stories of Mike Naumenko, singer and songwriter of Leningrad band Zoopark, and  Wiktor Tsoi, the front man of legendary band Kino, and based on the autobiography of Naumenko’s wife Natalya.
