After the Shah is overthrown in Iran in 1979 East German chemist Beate moves with her daughter and her husband Omid to his homeland – full of hope. But the early euphoria turns to horror as the Mullahs build an oppressive regime that restricts everyone's rights – especially women's. Hossein Pourseifi's confident feature film debut is based on a true story and impresses, amongst other aspects, with its smart use of archival footage and its great lead actors.
