THE BOSTON STRANGLER

A serial killer film by Richard Fleischer (SOYLENT GREEN) that was innovative in both form and content. It tells the real story of the hunt for a killer of women, Albert Henry deSalvo, who became known as the “Boston Strangler”, in the first half from the point of view of the police, in the second from the vantage point of the killer himself. Different perspectives are combined in the complex split-screen sequences, which also point to the perpetrator’s particular psychological disorder. The message of the film already testifies to more liberal views on crime introduced by the protest generation of the late 60s.
