THE CHANGELING

After the accidental death of his wife and daughter, music professor John Russell moves into a long uninhabited old mansion in Seattle. Unexplainable phenomena in the place lead him on the trail to an infanticide at the beginning of the 20th century that went unpunished. Peter Medak’s haunted house thriller relies less on explicit horror and the battle of good versus evil but rather on subtle atmospheric dread and psychological complexity. George C. Scott, best known for his portrayals of generals in Kubrick’s DR. STRANGELOVE or in PATTON, also shows his vulnerable side here.
