A racy tango in a ballroom, a stroll around the ship, or intimate conversations in exotic holiday resorts. The last gigolos are gentlemen with salt-and-pepper hair and cosmopolitan demeanour. Hired by cruise companies as dancers and entertainers for affluent, amusement-seeking women over 60, they spend their sunset years on ocean liners tending to the holiday dreams of single travellers. The film joins 74-year-old Gentleman Host Peter and follows the traces of those who do not want to live the lives of lonely retirees. In a relaxed atmosphere, both Peter's colleagues and the women give open and pleasant accounts of their eventful lives with fateful turns, and talk about aging, sex, and their hopes for moments of bliss aboard the ship. It soon becomes clear that it is not only the Gentlemen Hosts who are looking to fulfil their aspirations on the cruiser. DIE LETZTEN GIGOLOS is director Stephan Bergmann's first documentary for theatrical release.
