In 1972 a motion of no-confidence against German chancellor Willy Brandt fails in a really close shave – one of the members of parliament of the CDU/CSU has secretly voted against his own party. 45 years later this documentary shines a light on CSU backbencher Leo Wagner – and since the filmmaker is his grandson, it's not only about the politics and scandals, but also about the personal and familial battlegrounds. The grandfather, once respected as Mr. Clean, turns out to have been a self-destructive anti-hero, spending all his fortune in the red light district and secretly being employed by the East German Stasi. With archival footage and interviews with pimps, lovers and spies, Benedikt Schwarzer manages to paint a complex portrait of Wagner.
