Johnny is a slick loan shark who runs a state-subsidized block of flats in a London suburb. He can get anyone anything at the drop of a hat; getting a client who doesn’t have an iron a second ironing board is his easiest task. Only when a desperate mother exacts terrible revenge because John refuses to give her a loan, does he start to renounce his gangster existence and turn into a feeling human being. NEVER NEVER is an outstanding example of the typically British mixture of precise milieu study and laconic humor. Due to the excellent camera work, the perfect ensemble (the main character, John Simm, who also played in THE LAKES is brilliant), and the realistic setting, viewers become increasingly engrossed in this gripping social drama.
