Traveling as a tourist, the upright parliamentary representative Hirthe gets caught by mistake in a military coup in the fictive neighboring country Attica. Back in Bonn, he calls for sanctions against the dictator of Attica in front of the camera of a political magazine (in this scene Günter Gaus plays himself). Following his well-meaning appeal, Hirthe is thwarted by his faction and opponents, yet with great agility finds a place back in the web of economic and political interests of his surroundings. »Along with many of his compatriots, Wolfgang Menge openly showed his disgust at the spineless reactions of the so-called Western world to the fascist coup in Greece (1967)«, wrote the celebrated German critic Hellmuth Karasek about this clever film reflecting daily political culture in Germany. The film was directed convincingly by Tom Toelle
