In 1993 General Romeo Dallaire is sent to Rwanda, together with 2,500 UN soldiers, to secure the newly brokered peace between Tutsi and Hutu. What started as a seemingly routine assignment ended with the biggest genocide since 1945. While UN peacekeeping troops look on, doomed by their mandate to inactivity, 800,000 Tutsi are massacred by Hutu militia within 100 days. From Dellaire’s perspective, Steven Silver shows how the global community ignored all early warnings, and allowed the opportunity to neutralize the conflict through timely intervention to slip by unused.

In view of the current state of the United Nations, THE LAST JUST MAN is an alarmingly topical film.
