Happy-go-lucky starlet Betty comes to L.A. dreaming of show business. She meets the mysterious Rita, who lost her memory after a car crash. Together they go searching for memory, stardom and wealth in Tinseltown, finding only a nightmare factory controlled by strange forces, filled with weird intrigues and secrets – until after a visit in »Club Silencio« they awake from those dreams, and nothing is quite the way it seemed before. What started out a rejected pilot for another TV show ended up (thanks to additional shooting and a twisted structure) being Lynch's most exquisite and sensuous film puzzle. Part acidic satire on Hollywood, part exploded fairy tale of a plastic Californian world, part hair-raising horror story about the obsession of love – MULHOLLAND DRIVE pushes all the buttons at once. The master of the unconscious once again folds a seemingly simple plot into itself and creates an enigmatic, disturbing, enchanting film experience beyond all rules.
