Quentin Tarantino is a fan and connoisseur of it, but otherwise this is a chapter of cultural history that has largely slipped into oblivion. Australian exploitation and B movies were flourishing after the easing of censorship restrictions in 1971. In the 70s and 80s, local audiences flocked in droves to see horror, action, and sex films, which also attracted some Hollywood stars past their prime to the continent. NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD is a tribute to the heyday of »Ozploitation.« A fast-paced montage of film snippets, short animations, and interviews with some who have witnessed those times, and with Quentin Tarantino fully unleashed, it is as funny and entertaining as many of the films made back then would have liked to be. An incredibly painstaking labor of love and a work of great professional skill by author and editor Mark Hartley.
