3 Backyards
A sunny autumn day on Long Island. In the wake of a fight with his wife, a businessman (Elias Koteas) is drifting aimlessly across the island, until the fate of a stranger captures his attention; a housewife (Edie Falco) takes a celebrity actress (Embeth Davitz) along to the ferry in her car, and the short drive turns into a psycho-trip for both; a little girl loses her mother's valuable bracelet on her way to school, and encounters a scary stranger. Three ordinary stories, but told in a unique way by director Eric Mendelsohn. In a dream-like state, the protagonists move through a world that appears at once familiar and odd to them – as if David Lynch had created a suburban drama. The sun is relentlessly burning down on the streets, the sounds of nature are always just a bit close to the ear, and horror seems to lurk behind the next tree.
Eric Mendelsohn won the Best Director award at Sundance for 3 BACKYARDS earlier this year.
