Opening
Praising Béatrice Dalle's acting in DOMAINE, Variety writes that »she strides commandingly through the pic exuding »F-you« attitude, like Cleopatra in five-inch stilettos«. Rarely in recent years in film, indeed, has there been a performance by an actress as magnetic as this one. In a courageous choice to cast against type, France-based Austrian director Patric Chiha has her play the role of a mathematician – and a remarkable one at that! Nadine is a wild and independent intellectual in her 40s who is fascinated by the aesthetic of mathematician Kurt Gödel's logic. Her pubescent nephew Pierre falls under the spell of his charismatic aunt, who descends deeper and deeper into alcoholism. The relationship between them grows increasingly more intimate, until Pierre becomes aware of his homosexuality, and begins to practice it. Nadine responds with jealousy, and her life spins more and more out of control. Self-pity, though, is not to her taste – she keeps up her proud independence.
