It’s hard to believe that this absurd and visually state-of-the-art movie was made by a 84-year-old. Polish directing legend Jerzy Skolimowski tells the story of a circus donkey making his odyssey through the strange and foreign world of the humans. You could interpret EO as a homage to Robert Bresson’s AU HASARD BALTHAZAR (1966), probably the first time that cinema has abandoned the human-centric perspective. But Skolimowski goes even further: He even allows his animal protagonist to dream.
