In her directing debut, Jasmine Trinca creates an Italy that’s situated somewhere between Fellini’s fantasy, Rossellini’s neo-realism and Jeunet’s whimsy. Add to that a nod to legendary mime Marcel Marceau, who gives the eponymous dog its name, and you get a wildly inventive family drama about letting go of the past, street art, and the communication of love.
