EWALD LIENEN – EINE GRIECHISCHE TRAGÖDIE

Ewald Lienen was an exceptional figure in German professional football in the late 1970s and 1980s, not least because of his left-wing political commitment. Less well known is the “Greek tragedy”, which this gripping documentary tells in parallel with Lienen’s life story. As coach and sporting director, he was supposed to secure the survival of the ailing long-established club AEK Athens at the height of the European debt crisis. At the time, he had no idea how bad things would get for the club.
