R.M.N.

The hiring of two migrant workers at a bread factory in a small town in western Romania brings not only ethnic tensions and outright racism to the fore. Just like an X-Ray scan (R.M.N. is the Romanian term for an NMR) Cristian Mungiu’s brilliantly constructed and beautifully directed new film exposes all the complex dilemmas of European societies. A movie, as the director writes fittingly, “about the atavistic need to identify with your own tribe and mistrust any outsider”.
