Ava

An extraordinary debut: Léa Mysius is only 29 years old and has already landed a spot at Cannes for her feature debut. In sun-drenched 35mm images she tells the story of 13-year-old Ava living with her mother and her little sister on the French Atlantic coast. When her eye specialist breaks it to her that she will soon go blind, Ava's everyday life spins out of control. She runs away from her detested home with a boy who is living on the beach. With its impressionistic images and its sense of juvenile rebellion even beyond the realms of middle-class morals and laws, AVA brings up memories of Terrence Malick's BADLANDS or Andrea Arnold's AMERICAN HONEY.
