Quality Time

The crisis of the modern man is a pet theme of recent cinema years. But nobody ploughed that field with as much dark humour and originality as Dutch filmmaker Daan Bakker. In five stylistically very different episodes he introduces us to five young men despairing of the world: Koen can't stand the role he gets assigned at a family party; Stefaan moves back in with his parents after a crisis; Kjell tries to undo his childhood trauma with the help of time travel. In QUALITY TIME Todd Solondz's humour and Yorgos Lanthimos' surrealism meet with a formal inventiveness that owes inspiration both to very early computer games as well as Google Earth.
