The Day After

South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo is a phenomenon. In February he presented a new feature in the competition at the Berlin Film Festival – and in May he delivered two more in the official Cannes programme, one of which went into the competition. THE DAY AFTER is typically Hong and combines everything his admirers love him for: a lot of dialogue and even more drinking of rice liquor. And as is often the case in his movies, a man ends up a buffoon through his amorous trials and tribulations. This time it's Bongwan, the married owner of a small publishing company. He just fired a co-worker, with whom he had a long-time affair – but the wrath of Bongwan's wife will squarely hit the newly hired and thus completely clueless Areum.
