Returning from the hell that was World War One, Emil finds his family’s luxury hotel in the rural Rhein region under French control. It's a long and rocky way back to prosperity with political, social, generational and amorous upheaval throwing the family into turmoil. The screenplays by Dirk Kämper are inspired by true events. Thorsten M. Schmidt's two part epic provides a new perspective of the interwar period with sharp writing and sweeping camerawork.
