EVIL DOES NOT EXIST

After his Oscar winner DRIVE MY CAR, Japanese filmmaker Ryūsuke Hamaguchi enchants us once again with a subtly complex masterpiece: In a village outside Tokyo, Takumi and his daughter Hana live in harmony with nature, just like the other inhabitants. Until one day investors want to build a glamping site there, which would endanger the groundwater of the area. In contemplative images and with the beguiling music of Eiko Ishibashi (she will play live at the FILM FESTIVAL COLOGNE, see GIFT in the Look section), Hamaguchi tells a parable whose ending will spark a lot of conversations.
