THE SEED OF THE SACRED FIG

In May, Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof, who was threatened with a prison sentence, managed to escape from his home country. But it is not the external circumstances that make his latest film remarkable. The story of an investigating judge who has placed himself entirely at the service of the regime and abandons his ideals in order to maintain his position shows Rasoulof’s ability to combine an unsparing indictment of the Iranian regime with a universal story about the loss of trust and cohesion within a family.
