Three young Germans travel to Cuba in search of their missing student friend. But as these rich Western kids immerse themselves in Cuban culture, they find an unsettling power dynamic concerning money, romance and sexuality with the poor native population – and amongst themselves, too. Clearly inspired by her documentary work and digital culture, Bettina Blümner crafts a kind of sensual yet digital cinéma vérité to not only capture the precarious allure of the Cuban nature and people but to also go deep into her characters’ thoughts and desires.
