NAM JUNE PAIK: MOON IS THE OLDEST TV

These days Nam June Paik is mostly famous as a video art pioneer. Lesser known is that he tried his hand at composing in the Rhein area in the early Sixties and once in Mary Bauermeister’s Cologne studio cut off John Cage’s tie – as a performance piece very much in line with the contemporary anarchic Fluxus movement. And that’s just one anecdote of many from Amanda Kim’s documentary about the richly filled life of this Korean-born artist. She was in luck: she had access to an abundance of fascinating archive material from all stages of Paik’s work.
