YOUTH (SPRING)

After having already collected awards in Locarno and Venice, Chinese documentary filmmaker Wang Bing this year had the rare honour to present his latest film in the Cannes competition. YOUTH (SPRING) gives a unique insight into the lives of young migrant workers in the innumerable textile factories in the city of Zhili, close to Shanghai. Which once again shows that the reality does not conform to our clichés of sweatshop labour. Those young people are not just victims of a predatory system.
