An essay film both profoundly personal and universal by Brazil’s most important contemporary filmmaker. Just like in NEIGHBORING SOUNDS and AQUARIUS Kleber Mendonça Filho pays homage to his hometown of Recife. He remembers the modernist apartment he grew up in and where he filmed his first movies, and showcases the cinematic palaces where once upon a time Hollywood stars like Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis were celebrated. But these buildings no longer worship to the pantheon of the silver screen gods – they were repurposed as either consumer temples or evangelical megachurches.
