THE DEVIL'S BATH

Austria in the mid-18th century. Agnes, a devout believer, is trapped in a loveless marriage. She is expected to bear children, but her husband does not seem interested in women at all. Agnes sees only one cruel way out, which is also compatible with her religion. Anja Plaschg, better known under her musician alias Soap&Skin, is mesmerizing as Agnes in this historical film based on true events, which was filmed mainly in the Bergisches Land region. Martin Gschlacht’s 35mm cinematography was honoured with a Silver Bear at the Berlinale.
