In this dystopian future, humans are either living in derelict cities of ruins or as refugees in rural areas, separated by invisible electric barriers. A professor searches for a famous geneticist who may hold the solution for the catastrophic crop failures that have crippled humanity – but in order to find him he must somehow venture into the forbidden zones. Semih Kaplanoğlu's first feature since his 2010 Berlinale winner BAL is an epic black-and-white SciFi parable full of breathtaking imagery and philosophical undercurrents. Shot with an international cast on three continents it's an heir to Tarkovsky's STALKER – and yet feels highly topical and urgent.
