Argentina in the 70s: There's political chaos and violence in the cities, but surely you can still live peacefully in the small town, where Claudio is a respected lawyer and citizen. Until one of these “hippies” comes and just won't leave Claudio alone. Soon there's the arrival of a famous detective who investigates the hippie's disappearance – and finds out that that's not the only person who has suddenly gone missing. Writer and director Benjamin Naishtat, who has been a fixture in Berlin, Cannes and Locarno with his last films, presents ROJO with gorgeously composed images as a pitch-black social satire about decent, upstanding citizens and about how thin and porous the layer of civility can be when times are hard – it's a film that couldn't have come at a more appropriate time.
