SORRY ANGEL

There are many films about AIDS, but few are as light-foooted and downright provocatively lively as Christophe Honoré's SORRY ANGEL. It's 1993, and Arthur and Jacques feel attracted to each other. Jacques, a student, is all of 22 and living openly with his homosexuality for the first time, while Arthur is in his mid-30s and is HIV positive. But both men don't let the sickness dominate neither their life nor their relationship. With a lot of compassion, nuance, and intelligence, Honoré (LES BIEN-AIMÉS) paints a complex portrait of the times when the annual death rates of AIDS patients were at their peak. It's the best film so far from the Frenchman, who with this film joins his heroes like François Truffaut and André Téchiné in the filmmaking pantheon.
