Martha is pregnant, and her first trip is to the authorities to give the child up for adoption. Over the next few months, she staggers through Berlin, searching for support and understanding from her family, her colleagues and her boyfriend, while her emotional state spirals increasingly out of control. Director Kida Khodr Ramadan, previously better known for tough gangster dramas, adapts Antje Schall’s screenplay with a brittle, touching sensitivity, while Lilith Stangenberg runs a radical acting gauntlet.
