Young fashion designer Julia is intrigued, when a strange old man suddenly introduces himself as her grandfather and claims that her father is still alive. The moving family history that subsequently unfolds in front of her takes her to the economic boom years of the 1950s, when engineer Alexander falls in love with Giulietta in Italy. But instead of coming with him to Germany, she's married off to migrant worker Enzo by her parents. The story ends in tragedy and casts its shadow even over the generation of the grandchildren. Parallel to his novel, Daniel Speck also wrote the screenplay for this lush, epic three-part miniseries, which Gregor Schnitzler directs sensitively and with grand images. The success of this generational portrait is also guaranteed by a strong ensemble cast performance. The working version will be screened.
