THE LAST MOVIE

This is the New Hollywood film most surrounded by legends – and least seen. In 1971 Dennis Hopper's THE LAST MOVIE disappeared out of cinemas real fast and still hasn't seen a DVD release. After EASY RIDER's success in 1969 Hopper got a blank cheque from film studio Universal for his second directorial work. In it, he starred himself as a stunt man leaving the business after a tragic accident while shooting a Western in Peru. But the local extras just keep shooting, blurring the line between reality and fiction. Hopper's impressive meta movie, at its time unjustly maligned as a drug-fueled experiment, can now be rediscovered and re-appraised as one of the seminal films of 70s cinema.
